Paws To Heal Oasis
at
Brains, Bones and Behavior

The right holistic treatment can improve your dog's health and happiness, and maybe even extend his/her life. The main advantage of alternative medicines is that they can treat a number of ailments in a natural way without chemicals that could have adverse side effects.

Non-conventional, alternative, natural and holistic methods are not only concerned with the physical aspects of your pet, but also its emotions and experiences, which can have a major impact on its physical health.

At Paws to Heal we propose an overall health check of the animal which may also include seeing your veterinarian. We always consider diet, experiences and mental health before proposing any treatment. Included in our toolbox is TTouch, Bowen Technique, Reiki, herbs, essential oils, Kinesiology, Red Light Therapy, acupressure and crystals.

TELLINGTON TOUCH

Tellington TTouch is a specialized approach to the care and training of our animal companions. Developed by internationally recognized animal expert, Linda Tellington-Jones, PhD (Hon), this method based on cooperation and respect offers a positive approach to training, can improve performance and health and presents solutions to common behavioral and physical problems. It also helps establish a deeper rapport between humans and animals through increased understanding and more effective communication.

Using a combination of specific touches, lifts, and movement exercises, TTouch helps to release tension and increase body awareness. This allows the animal to be handled without provoking typical fear responses. The animal can then more easily learn new and more appropriate behaviors. By using the TTouch and a variety of other tools, like the Confidence Course, you can assist the animal in experiencing self-confidence in previously frightening situations. Even the most difficult problems are often eliminated.

BOWEN THERAPY

Canine Bowen Technique aims to promote and support the body's own powers of self-healing.

Using fingers and thumbs on precise points on the dog's body, Bowen Technique applies gentle rolling movements over the soft tissue. There is no hard manipulation, no pulling or cracking of joints or bones, no insertion of needles and no massage - with or without oil.

Bowen Technique, a successful human therapy developed in Australia during the 1950's was introduced to canines in 2001 and then integrated in canine behavioral and rehabilitation work with local vets with great success.

REIKI

Reiki for dogs has the power to sooth, heal, relax and energize. Reiki is not only used to assist in the healing or rehabilitation of a dog, but can also be used as a preventative. Reiki can be used in conjunction with all other holistic medical or therapeutic techniquest as well as with traditional medical treatments to relieve side effects and promote recovery and to maintain the general well-being of a dog.

CANINE EMOTIONAL DETOX

This program was developed by Diane Garrod over a period of 11 years. The basis of this program is to reduce the amount of stress hormones in the body and to reset the level of production of stress hormones. Stress hormones are produced when there is trauma in your dog's life. Repeated trauma will cause the level of stress hormones to go higher and higher and the production level to increase due to the "threat" of more trauma.

This program also shows us what motivates our dogs, what they find safe, joyful, or neutral to be ignored. We show the dog how to rest effectively and return to the dog the ability to get deep healing sleep. In the process we learn a lot about each individual dog so that subsequent programs of behavior change or training will be fast and effective.

RED LIGHT THERAPY

We use red light in our light therapy sessions. Red light therapy has been used for a couple of decades by veterinarians around the world to treat animals for a broad range of conditions.

Red light delivers an energy boost to the cells, which provides wide-ranging health benefits. Red light can penetrate your dog's cells, muscles, tendons and even bone to increase blood circulation which promotes and boosts the healing process.

Red light therapy is also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT). It uses low-energy light emitting diodes (LEDs) or lasers as an alternative therapy for pain relief, or to promote good cell functions. In contrast to high power lasers which can damage tissues, certain wavelengths of lasers are effective in applications such as speeding up wound healing, reducing the symptoms of restless leg syndrome and lowering pain in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

ESSENTIAL OILS/SALVES/HERBS

Essential oils are not a fad, they have been used for centuries as oils, salves and herbal formulas to help relax, calm or heal.

Essential oils are naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds that are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots and flowers of plants. These oils protect the plants and play a role in plant reproduction.

Essential oils and salves can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness for dogs. For injestion I always recommend herbs over oils as there is more of the plant involved in assisting the body.

Herbs are recommended everywhere and come in combinations from those for digestive issues to preventing flea and tick infestation. Ginger even helps with car sickness for dogs as it does for motion sickness in humans.

ACUPRESSURE AND PRESSURE POINT THERAPY

Acupressure is about using fingers, palms or special devices to apply pressure to acupoints on the body. These acupoints are nodes in the communication system around the body. When one of these communication lines in the body is blocked due to trauma, illness and misalignment of the body can occur.

Much of acupressure helps in draining clogged lymph nodes and channels. The lymphatic system is an essential part of the body's defense against disease. It is also known as the secondary circulatory system.

TRAUMA CLEARING

Trauma Clearing is a process of systematically releasing the feelings, thoughts and sensations that belong to a traumatic memory. It is done systematically until resolution. Resolution is the complete and total absence of the control that repressed and supressed memories exert in the present.

Obviously we can't get the dog to "talk" about past trauma, but dogs (and humans) carry those traumas in the functionality of the body. Behavior changes and health issues help us find the root cause - the trauma - that interrupted the communication processes of the body.

CRYSTALS / GRIDS

A crystalline grid is a group of energetically aligned crystals, stones and possibly other items, usually set into a sacred geometric shape, that is charged by ones intention for the purpose of manifesting or focusing on a particular objective.

The crystal is a neutral object whose inner structure exhibits a crystalline state of perfection and balance. When it is precisely cut to the proper geometric form and when the human mind enters into relationship with its structural perfection in the vibration of love, the crystal emits a vibration which extends and amplifies the power and grasp of the user’s mind. Imaged thought intent is amplified.

Kinesiology - Muscle Testing

The body has within it and surrounding it an electrical network or grid, which is pure energy. Because energy runs through the muscles in your body, if anything impacts your electrical system that does not maintain or enhance your body’s balance, your muscles will virtually “short circuit” or weaken (don’t worry, only temporarily). Things that might have an impact on your electrical system are thoughts and emotions, foods, and other substances.

Kinesiology, also known as biomechanics, is the study of body movement. Applied kinesiology (AK) which is also know as muscle strength testing, is a method of diagnosis and treatment based on the belief that various muscles are linked to particular organs and glands, and that specific muscle weakness can signal distant internal problems such as nerve damage, reduced blood supply, chemical imbalances or other organ or gland problems.

Kinesiology - Taping

Kinesiology tape is a stretchy, sticky athletic tape that was developed for humans over 30 years ago. This tape has recently gained popularity with animal bodywork practitioners after it was discovered that the same benefits humans experience when wearing the tape can be experienced by animals. To many people’s surprise, this revolutionary tape can be applied over an animal’s hair instead of directly to the skin to achieve the same decompression effect seen in humans.

Kinesiology taping is a modality that every animal bodywork practice can benefit from. This tape allows the practitioner to enhance their other therapies by leaving the animal with prolonged blood and lymph flow improvement, decreased pain sensation and support of joints and muscles that are suffering from instability or hyper and hypotonicity.
